Verifying your phone number and identity
Why Bontro requires phone and ID verification before you can accept bookings, and how to complete it.
Before a new Bontro account can accept bookings or take payments, you need to complete two quick verification steps: phone number and government ID. This protects your business and your clients from fraud, and keeps the marketplace trustworthy for everyone.
Where to verify
Go to Dashboard → Settings → Verify (or visit /dashboard/settings/verification directly). You'll see two steps:
Step 1 — Phone verification
1. Enter your phone number and agree to receive a one-time text message with your verification code (standard message and data rates may apply -- see our Privacy Policy for details). 2. We text you a 6-digit code. Enter it within 10 minutes. 3. Done -- your phone is verified.
Step 2 — Government ID
1. Click Verify My ID. You'll be redirected to a secure, Stripe-hosted page (Bontro never sees or stores your raw ID photos). 2. Photograph your government-issued ID and take a quick selfie. Takes about 2 minutes. 3. Stripe verifies the match and sends the result back to Bontro automatically -- you'll see your status update on the verification page within a few minutes.
What happens if I skip verification?
You can still set up your dashboard -- add services, set your availability, customize your booking page -- before verifying. But your public booking page won't accept bookings until both steps are complete; clients who visit your link will see a "Bookings Not Yet Available" message instead.
What if I don't want to do the ID/selfie step?
If you'd rather not submit a photo ID through Stripe, contact support@bontro.co. Our team can manually verify your identity another way (for example, reviewing a photo ID you email us) and activate your account directly.
Is my information safe?
Your government ID photos and selfie are processed entirely by Stripe Identity -- Bontro never stores or has access to the raw images. We only receive the verification result (verified, failed, or pending). See our Privacy Policy for full details on how this data is handled and retained.
